Collections

This topical collection brings together papers presenting methodological issues and approaches in geographical research. Submissions can be of various lengths, including relatively short descriptive accounts. We particularly welcome papers addressing innovative approaches to geographical research or advances in geographical method in research or education, plus creative applications of new and traditional research methods. Many of these innovations and advances may be inspired by alternative quantitative and qualitative analytical approaches, big data integration, innovative use of coding, and AI, image processing and machine learning.

Journal of the Bulgarian Geographical Society presents a topical collection of articles based on the conference "Advances in Geosciences for Smart Transformation" which is dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Faculty of Geology and Geography, Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" in 2023. As well as the 135th anniversary of the establishment of Sofia University „St. Kliment Ohridski“; the 130th anniversary of the first lecture in Geology; 125th anniversary of the first lecture in Geography; 50th anniversary of the Department of Landscape Ecology and Environmental Protection; 50th anniversary of the Department of Climatology, Hydrology and Geomorphology; 55th anniversary of the creation of Tourism Program and 50th anniversary of Geography of Tourism Department.
Our world faces many common natural, economic, and societal challenges that can only be dealt with through global action, understanding and sharing. The topical collection will focus on the central role that geography plays in developing transformation through the regions and the world.
The aim of this collection is to provide an important channel for the exchange of knowledge and experiences among researchers, highlighting essential findings and contributions in the following fields of studies (same as the conference thematic sessions):
