Upcoming conference | Changing Climate, Changing Geographies: Shaping the New Geospatial Reality
We are pleased to share that our publisher - the Bulgarian Geographical Society together with the National University Center for Geospatial Research and Technologies at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” is organizing an international conference this fall in Bulgaria. "Changing Climate, Changing Geographies: Shaping the New Geospatial Reality" aims to explore the spatial dimensions of climate change and the transformations of contemporary geographical reality. Researchers, lecturers, experts, and early-career researchers are welcome to submit their presentation titles before 15 May 2026.
The conference will be held in Sofia, Bulgaria, from 24 to 26 September 2026. More information on deadlines, topics and fees are available on the event webpage: https://bgsconference.com/.
Conference concept
Climate change is a global phenomenon, but its impacts are manifested through specific territorial, spatial, and geosystem contexts—cities, coastlines, mountain regions, rural areas, and regions with varying socio-economic vulnerability. These territories are undergoing profound physical, environmental, and functional transformations, while simultaneously becoming the focus of political, economic, and governance decisions related to climate adaptation and resilience.
The concept of a “new geospatial reality” reflects the dynamic reconfiguration of natural and social systems under changing climatic conditions. The conference aims to position geography as an integrative and interdisciplinary platform, in which climate change is understood as a complex geospatial process reshaping territorial structures, spatial interactions, and functional relations within geosystems. By fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and methodological pluralism, the forum seeks to contribute to the development of innovative analytical frameworks and practical solutions adequate to the challenges of a changing climate and changing geographies.
